SAMTIC: South African Music Technology & Innovation Capacity-Building Project
SAMTIC (Soth African Music Technology, Innovation and Capacity-building) is an international Erasmus+ funded project that connects six higher education institutions from South Africa and Europe.
Our mission is to transform digital music education, advance research and innovation and foster vibrant cultural exchange between Africa and Europe and higher education institutions on the respective continents.
Through in-depth training, curriculum revision and renewal and shared creative projects, SAMTIC builds capacity in music technology, artificial intelligence and digital education equipping educators and students for the rapidly evolving global music industry.

Our Vision
SAMTIC envisions a new era of digitally empowered music education in South Africa and Europe. By integrating innovative technologies, modernised curriculum as well as international collaboration, we aim to assist and fully equip educators, students and institutions with the skills, tools and connections they need to thrive in the 21st century creative economy.
Our Mission
To build sustainable and creative capacity through:
- Training of educators in digital music technologies and AI-driven production.
- Modernization of university curriculum to reflect international standards.
- Upgrading music labs and studio infrastructure with modern equipment and software.
- Facilitating hands-on professional experience and collaborative research.
- Promoting cross-cultural exchange between South African and European institutions.
THE CHALLENGE:
While European universities have embraced digital transformation in the arts, many South African institutions continue to face gaps in infrastructure, funding and outdated equipment. SAMTIC directly addresses these inequalities by fostering skills transfer, mutual learning and technological innovation across continents.
